Not All Old Coins Are Deep
Early on in the hobby, I assumed that all old coins must be deep down in the ground. Finding this coin taught me that I was wrong.
This 1844 large cent was found at an early 1800's homestead with my MXT in "coin & jewelry" mode.
Literally an inch and a half under the surface.
The same site also produced a 1955 Ben Franklin half dollar that was 3x as deep as this large cent. Go figure...
Have you ever found an old item at a shallow depth? Have you ever found a newer coin deeper than an older coin? Share your story in the comments section.
Thanks for reading and keep on diggin'.
